This week we saw –

Pike called up from the nether worlds to take command beside his highly effective offensive line and teammates.

BTW – That would be Tony Pike of the Carolina Panthers. Not Captain Pike of Star Trek but hey, I could not resist.

The Panthers burned through Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen and finally called Pike to get him some playing time because , well, just because.

With seemingly ever star name either out or on the bench, this team is really hurting.

But honestly, I can’t decide who is hurting more. Panthers, Bills or Cowboys.

The Bills proved that they stink no matter what country they are in.

They Cowboys proved that there is no low too low for them to go this year.

If I were Jason Garrett, and thank god I’m not, I’d be worried.

Hey Jason, here is a tip from a devoted Redskins fan. Keep calling up those wonderful passing plays!

And on a more positive note.

The Browns took it to Uncle Bill and the Pats! (I actually picked that one in my pickem league)

I know, everyone else was baffled too.

The Redskins didn’t lose.

And I am still winning the division in both my leagues thanks in part to my being able to (unbelievably) pick up Jacob Tamme off of waivers this week. If he is still available in yours, he is definitely worth a consideration.

!!! UPDATE !!!

Cowboys dot Com site goes down due to registration failure !!!

Default Network Solutions page with two kids playing soccer is shown instead of all the wonderful personnel and player headlines !!!

Ha ! Ha ! Ha !

Who wants 3D?

As a potential investor, consumer and confessed techie, I am always interested in the next big thing.

This time of year features two great trade shows that feature the latest in high tech.

CES and the Detroit Auto Show.

By far, the talk of the town at CES was 3D TV and entertainment.

The problem I have with this is that it is nothing new.
Sure the technology used today is like none other and more advanced than anything used before, but the concept of 3D has been around since before the 1950’s!

And yes, we still need those pesky glasses.

When I look to shows like CES, I look for things which are either functional and or innovative.

In my opinion 3D is neither. And more importantly it does not solve anything!

It is the video display industry version of “jumping the shark”. There is nothing new to do at the moment except make displays thinner and and sightly better resolution. So, what to do in order to generate hype and interest where there is none. 3D!

I just do not get that excited with having to use the same old glasses to view something on a screen.

I think I will wait for the Hologram Room or “deck” as envisioned in Star Trek.

Now that would be cool.

The auto show on the other hand

features the latest in green technology, engineering and continues to show a convergence of multiple technologies which make driving better.

Just look at Ford which has won two car and truck awards! I also saw a feature of a console which gave much better use of media, GPS and mapping, along with voice pattern recognition.

This got me to thinking about our current GPS system, which works just fine, but does have a pesky little habit of repeating the phrase “recalculating” every time one has to divert from the path GPS thinks you should take due to traffic, construction or just a plan old fashioned missed turn. Take into account that if traffic is really bad, it just sits there doing nothing. This is where the convergence of technology could come into play. From one system you could integrate a phone, mp3, video, Internet, radio, all into one device.

But what would really be “cool” would be integrating holographic technology into this.

Imagine having your choice of companions or navigator to provide directions and conversation.

I bet he would not say “recalculating”.

So, with an idea and an Internet connection I found this!

It is not quite to the level of Yoda, but it does address a lot of everyday problems and concerns all car owners have.

Like choice of companions, directions, safety features, voice pattern recognition, even translation services, and theft prevention.

So what do you think?

Wii-itis

Yes, it is a real word. Look it up.

Wii-itis is the condition of having pain and sore muscles from playing simulated sports with video games.

The Christmas family present is a big hit. Everyone has been playing it and loving all the games. Trouble is, none of us can now raise our arms above our heads…

That’s OK, I’m sure we will not be needing to do that motion much while rooting for the Redskins… 😉

Of course we all got other presents and like them as well, such as the new big ball Santa got William because his sister burst the old one 2 days before Christmas!…

Thank you Santa.

The other big thing we, (well just us guys), got for Christmas weekend, was to go to the CAPS game last night to watch the CAPS beat the Devils and take over First Place! It was the first time in 4 matchups this season that the CAPS have won against the NJ Devils.

Thanks to Ovechkin, Bradley, Backstrom, Neuvirth and the rest of the team for dominating a 40 shot-on-goal performance and 4 – 1 win!

It was the first time we have gone to a game and they certainly did not disappoint!
We were up behind the scoring end of the CAPS 1st and 3rd period goals in the corner and thoroughly enjoyed the game….

Here is a short video already posted on YouTube or you can see the HD version on the CAPS site.

This is also championship weekend for my commished league and of course EVERYONE is rooting for Leonard Nimoy’s Children (East Coast) to totally embarrass Team Edumucation (West Coast) and bring the trophy to the right coast where it truly belongs.

But we will not completely know the end result until ALL NFL games are completed this weekend.

Hope everyone had a fun, safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

Leap Frog Commentary…

The Jets play Leap Frog with MJD!

Obama bows to the world!

And Leonard Nimoys Children

(yes that is his teams name)

blows past me

(Santa’s Little Helpers)
in the standings of my commished league and snaps my 4 game win streak and
2 week sweep of all my leagues!

The Redskins learn how to block and Ladell Betts has his best game in years!
In fact, it has been so long since he was the featured back that he was quoted…

“I was just joking on the way over here (post game interview), I didn’t remember how to get to this room,” Betts said with a smile.

Speaking of the Redskins, We can strike another potential coach off the list…
Gruden has accepted a multi-year contract to stay in the broadcast booth…
But as the Stupid Sports Blog pointed out…

Someone please get them a table or limit viewing to just the head and shoulders!!!

And on the CBS NFL pregame show the announcers were doing a bit where players and personnel were being beamed (AKA Star Trek) to other teams. They ended the bit beaming Cowher to the Browns….

Cowher half screaming, half laughing, was quoted as “BEAM ME BACK!”

So, even though I lost, All this made for a highly illogical and wonderful Fantasy Football Week!

Well Done

Yesterday I went to see the latest Star Trek Movie, not because it was Mothers Day weekend, nor because I am a Trekkie (which I am), but because my oldest daughter thinks that Chris Pine is SOOOOO HOT.

She and her friends needed a ride and I was available to play Mr. Mom; so off we went.

Many months ago when I first heard they were going to release yet another Star Trek film; I too was one of the folks saying “oh no, not another star trek film”.

Let me just say that there are probably two types of people and reviews for this film. Those who hate it, and those who love it. For those of you who are Die Hard Kirk and Roddenberry fans of the original series, hated Deep Space Nine and all the other spin-offs that seemed to spawn off of this series. You will probably hate it.

If you are like me and able to put the original out of your mind, temporarily, and look at it fresh, as they did with this film, then you will probably like it.
I tend to fall into the second category. After all, I actually liked it when Queen came back on tour with Paul Rodgers. And I was skeptical then too.

It’s not the same Star Trek, the casting is perhaps not as completely good as the original, but good enough, and most importantly the movie is intended to be just that; a completely different perspective, here’s a hint… “a different reality”, than the original. Oh and the special effects are totally out-of-this-world, as they should be 😉

JJ Abrams and the rest of the writers, crew and casting do a very commendable job.

All in all; Well Done!
