Upon Further Review

Under-Review

OK, I’ll admit it. Jon Gruden brings up a good point about challenging interference calls – or rather non calls.

His reasoning is a bit off in that he is talking about “important” playoff caliber games but the point is worthy of consideration non the less.

Currently only plays involving the ball (including whether or not a player is down) and possession can be challenged – not player contact.  However, if a replay shows clear interference (especially when the play is in the end zone) and it was not called, should it be eligible for review.  Yes, we get the benefit of instant reply, Tivo, and of games viewed on network TV, but ever body  at the game usually get to see a reply on the stadium big screen.  So if a receiver is clearly interfered with and no call is made, should the play be eligible for challenge and review?

Then, of course, the one of the follow up questions could be . . . “why limit it to just interference calls?”

What about hits on the QB and non roughing the passer calls, or blatant holding, or what if you disagree with the penalty and want it reversed?  All of this runs the risk of snowballing out of control and ruining the game.

Is the bigger question to this “how do we even out officiating calls throughout the game and season?”

Is the answer better training?

A better and expanded use of the technology at hand?

Is the answer more of an officiating one?  As in more officials or different placement of officials on the field?

What do you think?

A Good Online Stock Screener

I like to find good online stock screeners.  Especially free ones.   However, there are often two problems with free online screeners;

1) Most of them are not really detailed enough for the serious investor.
2) Good ones get either discontinued or bought up by somebody else.

One of my favorites was the MSN old stock screener that was absolutely great.  Then MSN, in their infinite wisdom, got rid of it.  Then there were sites like ThinkorSwim and OptionsExpress which are excellent, but got bought out by larger entities.

So when I came across an article the other day which referenced a site called FINVIZ and gave it rave reviews, I was curious.  And for those of you who have been following me, I only post a review about something if I think it really $#!@s or really great.

Well, FINVIZ is great.

And they live up to their Mission Statement and Profile Goals.

Mission Statement
To provide leading financial research, analysis and visualization.

FINVIZ.com offers the fastest and the most advanced stock screener available online, interactive markets maps, innovative market analysis and institutional services.

The site is fast, easy to navigate and gives a whole host of options for screens and researching stocks. The stock screen filters cover everything from the basics of which exchange, sector, market cap, etc to almost any and all fundamentals to technical moving averages and – you guessed it – even patterns and setups.

As you can see, the screen has many pull down options, tabs and views for displaying informatino and results of your search.

Of course they do have a paid membership area which gives you access to real time quotes, pre-market data, even more charting capability, backtesting, proprietary correlations, alerts, and no advertising.  But this is optional.

I highly recommend FINVIZ to anybody looking for a truly dynamic online stock market screener.

In fact, I like it so much I have replaced at least a couple screens from different sites with FINVIZ and incorporated it into helping choose my monthly watch lists. This month I am running my lists in a March Madness format.  Round 1 starts this week.  Check it out.
