Best Highlights From The Pro Bowl

nfltwitterThere were two highlights of the pro bowl which are worth publishing.

The first is of Referee Ed Hochuli saying “Yes, there are penalties in the Pro Bowl

The second one was when Cris and Al were talking about the twitter stations on the sidelines for the players to tweet with all their fans.

Al Michaels:

“follow all your favorite players on twitter as they tweet from twitter stations around the stadium”

Cris Collinsworth :

“you got your twitter out”

Al Michaels :

“uh, what? – No!”

Yes, Al Michaels was actually speechless for a moment on that one.

Cheers

Thats a lot of points !

So, did everyone enjoy the NHL all-star hockey scoring match and the NFL Pro Punt Pass and Kick competition?

It was America’s, and the world’s, chance to watch millionaires on a paid vacation.

And apparently, we liked it.  Viewership was up this year.

Congratulations to Mike Green and Alexander Ovechkin from the capitals!

Also to congrats to DeAngelo Hall  . . .

for winning the distinction of being the MVP of said vacation.

Trivia time:  Who was the last Redskin to earn MVP at the Pro Bowl?

Congrats to London Fletcher . . .

Hey watch out for the face mask buddy!

And Brian Orakpo for registering most tackles!

Guess somebody forgot to tell him it wasn’t a real football game . . .

And the last Redskin to earn a Pro Bowl MVP . . .

Joe Theismann.

Now that’s talent !

Funny, this is perhaps the one part of the Redskins organization that I have NEVER heard any complaints about.

By now everyone knows that there are 3 Redskins going to the pro bowl Fletcher, Orakpo, and Hall.

Wait, scratch that.  Make it 4 Redskins.

Chelsea from above mentioned cheerleading squad has also been selected to appear in the pro bowl.  I can’t think of any better group of representatives from the Redskins Team.

Ok, well maybe minus Hall . . .

You can find out more about Chelsea on her profile page.

You can find out how to audition for the squad on their audition page.

And just to be fair, London Fletcher’s Profile Page, and Brian Orakpo’s Profile Page, and Hall’s.

You can do something amazing…

Like become Miss America

or

Win the MVP award in the Pro Bowl.

Yup it sure was a good weekend for Virginia students, athletes and universities!

First, Caressa Cameron from VCU won the Miss America pageant.

And to think that she thought her only talent was singing…

Caressa worked hard to perfect her chances in the pageant and successfully navigated her way through grueling questions like the one which stumbled Miss California Carrie Prejean last year.

And I did read somewhere that she is a ‘Goofy Foot’ which means that most pageant contestants lead with their right foot but she leads with her left. Now, this is not goofy at all! After all any good sports coach will tell you that if you are a righty, you lead with your left.

I think all the other contestants are ‘goofy’.

She does have good advice for all the young kids out there and surprisingly enough, it is not to go to school, study, work hard, or even do well…

“We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little,”

Gee, I hope she was talking about hockey…

The other big winners this past weekend came from the the pro bowl. The ACC takes the trophy for most players in the pro bowl this year. All in all there were 23 ACC players in the pro bowl.

3 of them came from Virginia.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Heath Miller, and Matt Schaub.

Matt Schaub had a 98 passer rating this year with 4770 yards passing and 29 TD’s.
And he won the MVP award in the pro bowl.

Congratulations Matt!

So, does Caressa have any advice for Matt?

Well, as any good communications major should, she does appear to be working on her delivery, release point, and of course she is leading with her left !!!

A tribute…

When I think of the Pro Bowl, I think of my kids playing NFL on xbox or playstation. Except, you can play whomever you want on your your favorite team. Kind of like Fantasy Football just a lot more meaningless.

This year I do have one exception to that meaningless statement. London Fletcher.

This guy is nothing short of amazing both on and off the field and it looks like he is finally getting the recognition he deserves with both playing in the Pro Bowl and being nominated for the Payton Award.

If you ever want an example of a true team leader, a role model, this guy is your man.

Just some little info from Wikipedia…

High School: won varsity letters in football and basketball. He played on two state championship basketball teams.

College: played both basketball and football. As a senior, he had 202 tackles (a school-record) and was named the Division III National Linebacker of the Year.

Professional: He was one of the two rookie free agents to make Rams’ opening day roster, he played in all 16 regular season games, starting the season finale at San Francisco. Fletcher earned the Rams Rookie of the Year Award as teams’ Rookie of the Year

Bills
on Bills defense, setting a career high and franchise record with 209 tackles, breaking the old mark of 206 set by Chris Spielman in 1996[1]. He also was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate eight times.

Redskins
Nominated as their Walter Payton Man of the Year Award representative.

Named co-winner of the B.J. Blanchard Award, along with quarterback Jason Campbell, an honor given annually to a Redskins player who best helps the local media.

Fletcher once considered himself the NFL version of Susan Lucci, who won a Daytime Emmy after 18 tries.

Though Susan Lucci never hit like this…
