Bad Karma – Revisited

So last year I did this post about things just “going wrong”.

Well, just when I resolve to get my debt taken care of, improved my bottom line, and get my finances in better order….

This month the following has happened….

What turned into get one or two new tires for my car turned into needing to get all four replaced, to an alignment repair and needing new brakes…

Then last Friday our refrigerator decide 63 degrees was just the right temperature to store food. NOT! So, forgoing repairs that would have approached a new refrigerator, we opted to get a new one. After hours of shopping online we narrowed our choices down to two models and then proceeded to shop locally for them at local stores. Well, needless to say, we found what we were looking for but we have to WAIT for delivery which is currently scheduled for next THURSDAY!. Arrrgh.

So now we are living on frozen food for a week not too mention that we will have to replace everything that went bad in the old one. DOUBLE Arrrgh!

So just when I was planning to reduce debt, I have added to it.

Perhaps I should have gone to a fortune teller before making my new years resolutions.

Speaking of which, I was looking online for a type of widget that would actually track my progress of reducing credit card debt and report it in percentage format much like my covestor widgets on the right sideline do.

Needless to say, I could not find one I liked. But I did find this…

Palm Reading Widget

Something tells me that if all palm readers looked like this, business would be pretty good.

So, starting next weekend, until I find a credit card widget I like, I will post my progress, for better or worse, on the right via a manual chart. And you will just have to take my word for it.

Oh yeah, and the stock market went really south this past week too.

But the month is not over yet. So, who knows what will happen between now and then.

Can you hear me now…

So, a while ago I got a HD radio for my car. I got it mostly because the CD in my other radio broke.

Well, one of the features this new radio has is the ability to connect to a Bluetooth device (with an optional adapter of course).

So the other week, one of my co-workers went on spending spree and bought a whole bunch of Apple products like a Mac and iPhone. The mac I could understand because she is going back to college and her current computer is probably older than mine. The iPhone was a surprise to me. Needless to say both are really nice to have and hardly a day goes by that she does not come in all giddy about some new feature, or app, that she discovered with either her mac, or iPhone, or both.

But anyway, one day she comes in and is raving about how she has done the coolest little thing with her iPhone. It connects up with her Prius radio and she can talk and listen to phone calls through her car audio system.

This gets me to thinking that I have been meaning to do the same with my phone and radio. So I hop online and take a look for the optional adapter that is required to do this.

Wow! it is almost as expensive as the new radio was in the first place.
So I hop on over to e-bay and take a look and low and behold someone has a used one for auction. I put it on my watch list and 3 days later jump in with 20sec left and make a bid. I won! 🙂 And it only cost me about 1/2 the price! 🙂 🙂

So, I have installed the adapter, sync’d up my phone, and can now receive and make calls with my car radio!

Cool!

Radio Ga Ga

Two weeks of no radio, CD player, music or news and traffic updates is a long time…

Well after one false start, and then waiting for the correct installation kit to arrive, and a nice day that I could actually open up the car and install the radio; Everything is up and running, looking and sounding great!

Good thing to, because I’m a terrible singer…

Bzzzzap!

OK kids, step right up and heat your dinners, snacks, and leftovers…
The new microwave has arrived!

Amazing how nobody but us old folks know how to cook, or re-heat,anything on a stove with pots and pans.

Be sure to save some popcorn for me…

Picture Perfect

I received the new entertainment amplifier/receiver Monday.
Hooked everything up…
and the Caps looked GREAT !

Correlation?
I hope not.
I can’t afford to buy a new AV device for every playoff game… 😉

GO CAPS !!!

BAD KARMA

I don’t know what is going on with this past week but the stars must be all out of alignment or something…

It seems that there are gremlins loose and they are playing with all of our home projects, appliances and electronic equipment.

Back in college, before Spielberg, we called them Zombwits. Back then they usually occupied themselves with pencils, important papers, and socks. But with the advancement of technology, they have evolved and gained new skills.

This week we had the following happen…

Lawnmower Died…

I tried to repair but could not find parts anywhere that would work and the more I fiddled with it the more it broke. So off to Home Depot I went for a new one.

Microwave oven Died…

If you have never tried living at home without a microwave oven, especially with kids in the house, you should try it sometime. This week it died a painful death with an agonizing screeching sound, and smoke!
We did not see any in the local stores that looked good or got good reviews so we found a reasonable one with good reviews on the Internet and ordered it.

Of course, now we have to wait for shipping!

Amplifier / Receiver for the entertainment system died…

This one I almost decided to forgo replacing but since this particular piece of equipment is the heart and sole of the entire setup, I decided it needed replacing. After all without it, nothing else worked. Fortunately we have a backup system and all the kids could plug into another TV (yet much smaller TV) to play their games and watch their DVD’s and other TV shows.
Regardless, it ended up being some one board capacitors that required the whole board to be replaced – and yup – you guessed it, either one did not exist or it cost just as much as a new unit would.
So back onto the Internet I went and after much research found one I liked. Now, I am by no means an audio junkie, so I was not about to spend literally thousands of dollars on another one. But I do know what I like and the cheapest unit, again with good reviews, that I could find was way more than I was willing to spend. So after a bit more research I found a place that had some reconditioned/refurbished ones for sale at about 1/2 the price with factory warranties! Now, being in the computer field, I know that 90% of returned/reconditioned manufacturer PC’s are not actually broken but rather its the stupid people who can’t figure out how to work them that are; so I figured that this might apply to slightly sophisticate home theater equipment as well. And so, just like with the microwave, I am waiting for Shipping!

Speaking of backups…

My Hard Drive on my work laptop died…
And I had to go all week with a loaner and about 1/2 the information and apps that I usually had. I put in a request to get a newer laptop, but it seems that my laptop is still under warranty, so no such luck. I did, however, get approved for the latest Vista image and MS 2007 version of all my apps. So this is kinda cool. But still I was on a loaner laptop for most of the week.

The CD player in my car finally died…
this has been dying a slow agonizing death for months – mostly my agony because it refused to work when it was below 50 degrees…

So while I was online looking up all the other stuff I found a HD radio with all the necessary USB, ipod and Aux connections on the front panel which not only fit my car (this was actually tougher than I thought it would be) but was a reasonable price and had decent reviews! And yes, you guessed it, I am waiting on shipping for this as well!

So now its a waiting game for all this wonderful shipping to arrive.

And what am I going to do while I listen to that big Whoooshing sound of all my money going out the window…

Easy, I just fire up the ol’ gaming machine, pull out my little bag of costume tricks, and take my aggression out on those little buggers that caused all this mischief in the first place…
