Spring has sprung here in the DC metro area and that can only mean one thing to us football fans. . .
Time to get out the fan gear, cameras, binoculars, stat sheets and go do some bird watching!
Funny, this is perhaps the one part of the Redskins organization that I have NEVER heard any complaints about.
By now everyone knows that there are 3 Redskins going to the pro bowl Fletcher, Orakpo, and Hall.
Wait, scratch that. Make it 4 Redskins.
Chelsea from above mentioned cheerleading squad has also been selected to appear in the pro bowl. I can’t think of any better group of representatives from the Redskins Team.
Ok, well maybe minus Hall . . .
You can find out more about Chelsea on her profile page.
You can find out how to audition for the squad on their audition page.
And just to be fair, London Fletcher’s Profile Page, and Brian Orakpo’s Profile Page, and Hall’s.
With the start of training camp this week excitement and expectations and least we forget, speculations, are running high.
So it only goes to show that there are some important redskin signings this week to kick things off….
Donovan McNabb was at a book signing Tuesday for the “NFL Dads Dedicated to Daughters” book signing at Borders in DC.
McNabb is one of more than 70 current and former NFL players who contributed to the book, which discusses what it’s like to have a daughter and what men can do to prevent violence against women. Proceeds from sales go to A Call to Men, a group dedicated to the prevention of domestic abuse. Redskins’ cornerback DeAngelo Hall and former Redskin Brian Mitchell also contributed to the book and have previously signed copies.
Then we have the notable Redskin Cheerleaders Hosting a Calendar Party Thusday July 29th at Public Bar in DC.
The Calendar Party gets underway at 7 p.m. and continues to 11 p.m. The event features performances and a fashion show by the new cheerleaders squad, as well as opportunities for autographs and photos.
Proceeds benefit, well, probably the charitable Dan Snyder bank account and the calendar is dedicated to, well, the fans 😉
And speaking of Dan Snyders bank account and supporting a good cause…
Albert Haynesworth is expected to report to training camp slimmer and in better condition this year.
Conspiracy Theory has him doing this to get on the outside of the line and away from his nose tackle responsibilities.
Pro Haynesworth supporters say this is rather to prove his worth and dedication to football.
Me, I vote for a wait and see approach. To me actions speak louder than words and with that said, Dear Albert is not off to a good start. If he was truly dedicated to football and the team he would have shown up in the spring for OTA’s like everyone else.
BTW: There was a really cool article, inspirational reading for Albert, published in the Washington post regarding the noble role nose tackle plays in a good defensive scheme.
Hopefully Dear Albert will read it.
Lets look at the evidence.
– Uniforms: Check.
– OTA’s: Organized Team Activities? Check.
– Hours of inconvenient and multiple practices throughout the week? Check.
– Coaches: Check.
– Competition: Check.
– Fans: Check.
– Different formations for different circumstances? Check.
– Celebration Dances? Check.
– Displays of gang team colors and symbols? Check.
– Taunting of opposing players? Check.
– Perks:
– – Free food, cars, rides and lodging? Check.
– – Money advances? Check.
– – Special Treatment? Check.
If you doubt me about the perks, ask any parent of a cheerleader.
So, just in case you missed it; The Salahi, AKA “reality TV party crashers” have been invading other sacred ground outside of the White House.
Mrs. Salahi recently impersonated a Redskin Cheerleader…
According to reports, others suspected her “authenticity” when she apparently did not know the drills, routines, or even the words to the fight song.
My guess is that Mr. Salahi also infiltrated the organization, most recently as a place kicker….
Here too, he did not know the plays, the timing or even how to kick the DAMN ball through the uprights!!!
Of course, the Redskins are the perfect organization for them.
After all, we already have a couple high profile people impersonating an owner and GM…
Next in my review of the AFL 50th anniversary teams is the New York Jets, AKA Titans.
When I went out to the Jets site, I saw the team banner, ticket ad and a picture of Kerry Rhodes.
OK so, yes Rhodes is a great player. Funny, I would not have thought of him as the feature player to put on the banner, but hey, defense wins championships and he is one of the best at what he does.
An article about Leon Washington still a no-show for the team activities. Maybe that is why he does not get top billing…
A to be expected article about training camp starting up and all the hopeful expectations.
Everything else was about the Flight Crew. The Flight Crew of course being the Cheerleaders.
The next big thing was the new stadium and a really cool 3D interactive representation of the yet to be completed stadium. The headline being that the fans deserve a championship stadium. Certainly the prices were championship prices.
Speaking of the fans. The Jets had an interesting page for die hard fans who are away on travel and or at an away city. On this page, you could find all the Jets Friendly Bars and night spots for viewing Jets Games.
Other than that there was nothing.
No big time widgets…
No big time 50th anniversary web page…
No really interesting topicality…
(maybe they should sign MV, after all, the other NY team got TO and all the attention that goes along with him!)
So,
I give 1/2 a thumb for their retro 50th anniversary uniform
and a 1/2 thumb for their lame web site.
Next up Oakland Raiders!

Each year the Redskins organization holds tryouts for a select talented few.
A select group of talented individuals who have gone through months of training, conditioning, and learning the formations and special counts required to make the team.
Alas, I would try out, but I do not think I have what it takes to get a roster spot.
