I Never Bet On The Favorite – March Madness

march-madness-BracketBallBack in 2011 we witnessed VCU become the first team from the recently expanded first four round advance to the final four.

It was a historic NCAA Tournament.

This year, Louisville is the talk of the tournament with the #1 overall spot.

I don’t think they will make it.

I have two brackets set up.

One, with a ton of upsets and games I think are going to be great to watch.

The other, with my personal favorites dominating into the final four.

First my upset bracket:

MIDWEST:

madness-bracket-midwest

St. Mary’s and Creighton (I hate Duke) make it to the Sweet 16!

Yes, I have Louisville losing!  I told you it was a crazy upset bracket.

WEST:

madness-bracket-west

La Salle and Belmont make it to the Sweet 16.

Sorry Ohio St fans, you are going to lose to one of the “I” teams (either Iowa State or Iona).

SOUTH:

madness-bracket-south

Kansas gets dropped by North Carolina.

Michigan and S. Dakota prove to be the game to watch.

And unfortunately VCU falls to S. Dakota.

EAST:

This is my “boring” part of the bracket with only Bucknell being a possible surprise advance.

My Final Four:

Creighton, Belmont, Florida, Indiana

And The Winner Is:

Florida!

And for my slightly more realistic “personal favorite” but very boring bracket I have all four #1’s making it to the Final Four with Gonzaga defeating Indiana for the National Championship.

Who do you have winning?

Sabans And Lions Oh-My

A Lion Is On The Loose!

Concerned, and slightly terrified, Norfolk VA residents called the local police department about a young lion on the loose.  Authorities checked with all local zoos to make sure all lions were accounted for.  After all, a lion roaming around terrorizing neighborhoods is an extremely important event that needs to be dealt with immediately by highly trained authorities.  There were no missing lions reported.

As it turns out, this terrifying lion was the product of an overzealous Old Dominion University fan and dog owner.

The Longest Championship Game

The 1971 AFC Divisional Playoff Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins, played on Christmas day, didn’t end until halfway through a second overtime period. The marathon game lasted eighty-two minutes and forty seconds.

That is nothing!

Nothing compared to this Christmas Championship Weekend in Fantasy Football !!!

This championship weekend is going to last 5 days!

Thanks to a classic Nor’Easter snow storm / blizzard and the postponement the Sunday Night Football game to Tuesday.

It started last Thursday evening with Pittsburgh Steelers and is not scheduled to end until this Tuesday with the Philadelphia Eagles.

As of this point in time, I am 31 points behind. Tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints will help decide my fate in this championship game. I still have Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and DeSean Jackson yet to play. He has David Akers.

It would be a lot closer, and I would feel a lot more confident in my comeback potential, if I had not kept the Dallas D in there instead of the Ravens. How they could absolutely clean up on the Skins for 18 points last week and totally #@!$ this week against an equally bad and sack / turnover prone team is beyond me.

I know I am not alone in this extended suspense filled championship game lasting so long. There are lots of other leagues and teams having their championship this week.

But this is the only one I really care about and I wish my opponent would just get it over and forfeit now ;-).

Seriously though, this has been a really wild and crazy and exciting fantasy football year and having the championship come down to the wire like this is why we all love this so much.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Quakers

There is more than one NCAA Basketball Tournament.

A small local, when I went to NC, school in Greensboro NC is going to the NCAA Division III championship series.

Guilford College, part of the Old Dominion Conference, is going back to the championship series for the 2nd year in a row.

This is huge for this College. Back when I went there we never won anything. The most excitement we had was from a two sport letter player Greg “keen-eye” Sims who played both Basketball and Football.

His brother, Marvin Sims, was drafted and played a couple years in the NFL for the then Baltimore Colts.

Greg’s claim to fame was that he was easily one of the best athletes on campus, and…

He got invited by the Cowboys to attend their training camp. This was the same year that Everson Walls, who was another undrafted invite too, started and all Keen-Eye could talk about was how great Everson and all the other starters were.

Unfortunately Greg did not end up making the team but had an experience of a life time and great stories to tell.

So, congratulations to Guilford and good luck in the tournament!
