An Easter Present

Looks like the ACC is the big winner of the Easter Bunny Presents this year.

First:

Maryland Point Guard Greivis Vasquez from the University of Maryland is the winner of the 2010 Bob Cousy Award.
Vasquez, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, averaged 19.6 points per game for Maryland this season while recording 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. He led Maryland to a 24-9 record, a share of the ACC regular-season title and an NCAA tournament berth. Vasquez is a Wooden Award Finalist, was named as the ACC’s Player of the Year, and was named to The Sporting News First-Team All-America.

Second:

Duke played an all around outstanding game to advance to the championship game against Butler. I just wish it was a different ACC team representing us, but hey, I’ll take it.

Third:

We have Easter celebrations underway here at the Fumbled Returns blog and household.

You can do something amazing…

Like become Miss America

or

Win the MVP award in the Pro Bowl.

Yup it sure was a good weekend for Virginia students, athletes and universities!

First, Caressa Cameron from VCU won the Miss America pageant.

And to think that she thought her only talent was singing…

Caressa worked hard to perfect her chances in the pageant and successfully navigated her way through grueling questions like the one which stumbled Miss California Carrie Prejean last year.

And I did read somewhere that she is a ‘Goofy Foot’ which means that most pageant contestants lead with their right foot but she leads with her left. Now, this is not goofy at all! After all any good sports coach will tell you that if you are a righty, you lead with your left.

I think all the other contestants are ‘goofy’.

She does have good advice for all the young kids out there and surprisingly enough, it is not to go to school, study, work hard, or even do well…

“We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little,”

Gee, I hope she was talking about hockey…

The other big winners this past weekend came from the the pro bowl. The ACC takes the trophy for most players in the pro bowl this year. All in all there were 23 ACC players in the pro bowl.

3 of them came from Virginia.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Heath Miller, and Matt Schaub.

Matt Schaub had a 98 passer rating this year with 4770 yards passing and 29 TD’s.
And he won the MVP award in the pro bowl.

Congratulations Matt!

So, does Caressa have any advice for Matt?

Well, as any good communications major should, she does appear to be working on her delivery, release point, and of course she is leading with her left !!!

Bracketology

I’ve been playing with picking brackets the last couple days and I keep coming up with the same SuperBowl2 result.

It’s like a bad version of groundhog day all over again.

So, I decided to try one a bit different.

It’s different because it has NO UPSETS in the early rounds. Every single favored and higher ranked team wins.

I save the upsets for the last 2 rounds.

So what did I come up with?
Check it out?

And then I did my obligatory crazy all ACC final four bracket! LOL 🙂

Represent ! … And pray

I’ll start with the local boys:
Five teams got in from Maryland/D.C./Virginia area.
Radford, Morgan State, American, VCU and Maryland.

Sorry Radford, you drew UNC in the first. I hope you win, but I’m not betting on it.
Morgan State, Again, I think you have a chance but… Hmmmm no. Sorry.
American and VCU can win each of their games…
Oh, and so can Maryland – believe it or not!

Branching out to the rest of the ACC:
There are two Big 10-ACC matchups in the first round:
Clemson-Michigan, and Florida State-Wisconsin.
There could easily be two more in the second round:
Duke-Minnesota, and BC-Michigan State.
The ACC has never lost the challenge, and went 6-5 head-to-head this year.
I’m hoping the winning streak doesn’t end; but again, not betting on it.
Picking Michigan State, Duke, Florida, Michigan.

And I believe Wake Forest should advance past the first round as well.

That will leave…

Get Psyched !!!

It’s time to get psyched about sports again!

With all the bad press Maryland has gotten lately, it’s nice to see something good happen with their game. And, even though I went to college in NC, I am a born and raised Maryland fan.

FEAR THE TURTLE !!!

Maryland 88

(#3) North Carolina 85

Of course there were other great games which helped stir the post season pot as well…

Big 12 Action… Texas 73 Oklahoma 68
PAC 10 Action… Washington State 82 UCLA 81

But who cares about those 😉

GO ACC !!!

And, as if March Madness was not enough to get ones sports blood flowing again…

HE’S BACK !!!

With golf tournament attendance down as much as 30% and PGA TV ratings down as much as 50%, the Tiger Woods Stimulus Plan is just what they need to get ratings back on track.

And last but certainly not least…
Hockey is entering the final stretch towards the post season and, at least around here, all attention will be focused on the CAPS!!!
GO RED!
